Children’s character created by Northamptonshire dad to be voiced by David Jason

Sir David Jason will voice Pip's Uncle Skipper in the animated series Pip!

Sir David Jason will voice Pip's Uncle Skipper in the animated series Pip!

An animated TV character created by a Northamptonshire father as a bedtime story will be voiced by Sir David Jason.

The Only Fools and Horses actor has been announced by Cosgrove Hall Fitzpatrick Entertainment as taking the part of Skipper in Pip!

About the adventures of a sea pup who lives on the coast in Salty Cove, Pip! was created as a story for his children by photographer Charlie Ward from Earls Barton.

Twenty years later he turned the tales into a book, and the idea was then picked up by CHF Entertainment.

Sir David, who will voice the title character’s uncle, said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been asked to be the voice of Skipper, and I am now looking forward to seeing Pip! and it’s wonderful cast of characters come to life and capture the hearts of families across the UK and beyond.”

Brian Cosgrove, who came out of retirement last year especially to work on the new series, has worked with Sir David on the cartoons Dangermouse and Count Duckula.

Mr Cosgrove said: “David and I have worked together on a number of children’s animation series over the years.

“What makes David unique is that he has the tremendous ability of not only making the characters his own, but he brings them to life in such a way that they have massive universal appeal.

“I am thoroughly looking forward to working and having some fun with David once again, and making our new series Pip! and in particular his character Skipper a children’s all time favourite.”

Pip! is currently planned to air on Channel 5’s children’s TV section Milkshake when production is complete.
