CCTV spotted drugs supply

A man from Northampton has pleaded guilty to supplying a Class A drug after he was caught on CCTV passing a quantity of cocaine to another man.

Richard Moore, aged 25, of Marlowe Close, Mereway, Northampton, appeared at Northampton Magistrates' Court yesterday after he was charged with dealing cocaine on July 3.

The court heard that CCTV operators witnessed Moore passing a white powder to a man in Gas Street, near the town centre, at about 2.30am.

Tim Akers, prosecuting, said Moore was then arrested and, after a search of his home, officers found a further quantity of cocaine.

Mr Akers said: "At his home address officers found a bowl containing a small amount of white powder and this was later tested and found to be cocaine."

Andy Hopkinson, defending, said Moore was a man of "previous good character" and he had not taken any money off the man he had given the cocaine to.

He said: "This was not for commercial gain, he did not take any money. The man asked if he could try the cocaine and he poured it into the man's hands.

"It was very amateurish and not something a commercial dealer would do."

Moore pleaded guilty to possessing and supplying a class A drug and the case was adjourned until later this month to allow for a pre-sentence report to be carried out. Magistrates told Moore to expect a suspended jail sentence.
