Casino cash for carnival

Funds for a forthcoming street carnival have been given a boost following a £1,000 donation from a new casino.

Northampton Carnival is due to be held between June 13 and 15 this year and organisers have been given the cash windfall thanks to sponsorship from casino firm Aspers, which is due to open a new complex in Commercial Street later this year.

Carnival organiser Morcea Walker said: "The event needs the support of local businesses to develop and we are really pleased that Aspers has become involved in this way."

The theme of this year's carnival is 'Masque – Exploring Dual Identities' and already record numbers of local floats and participants are forecasted to participate with the additional attraction of visiting carnival troupes from across the Midlands.

Aspers general manager Mark Darnell said: "The carnival is going to be a fantastic colourful event with amazing costumes."
