Carlos Santana in U-turn over rock festival
Just weeks after pulling out of a Northamptonshire music festival, rock legend Carlos Santana has agreed to put the gig back on.
The Mexican musician was announced as one of the headliners at the Silverstone Classic music and motorsport festival in April.
But a month after both Santana and the Pussycat Dolls were announced as the main musical attractions at the event, both pulled out with organisers blaming 'unforeseen circumstances'.
Now, following further negotiations between Santana and the people behind the Silverstone event, it has been announced he will take to the stage on Saturday, July 25.
And in a final twist, the 40 ticket price to see Santana has been scrapped, with the concert now free to anyone who pays to get into the Silverstone Classic.
A spokesman for the organisers said: "We're pleased to announce that after much negotiation this year's event will feature Carlos Santana live on the Saturday night in his only UK date of 2009.
"He will be entertaining spectators with his unique blend of 'old school' virtuosity and 'new school' cool style combining rock, jazz, blues, soul and various cultural genres.
"With a career spanning 40 years, Carlos Santana has sold 90 million albums worldwide and is considered by music aficionados as one of rock's true virtuosos and guiding lights."
British boy band Blue will also perform a free concert at the event and a number of other bands which will play at the event are due to be announced later this week.
Other attractions at the Classic, which runs from July 24 to 26, include a celebrity sports car race, aerobatics displays, a Victorian funfair and more than 600 cars taking part in races around the Silverstone track.
Advance tickets for the Silverstone Classic are available now for 35.
