Cancer boy joins Sir Ian Botham walk
A six-year-old boy from Northampton, who has cancer of the immune system, will take part in a four-mile charity walk with cricket legend Sir Ian Botham the day after his chemotherapy treatment finishes.
Sir Ian
Alfe Game was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in September last year but the plucky youngster has since been eager to help others with his condition.
He was thrilled when mum Karen Rogers organised the family's participation in the Milton Keynes leg of the Great Forget Me Not Walk for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research next month, which is being led by former England all rounder, Sir Ian.
Alfe's part in the event seemed to be ruined when doctors scheduled him for a bout of chemotherapy treatment which finishes on April 16.
However the youngster was determined to do the walk for other children like him.
Mrs Rogers, of Park Lane, Duston, said: "We feel ever so proud of him. Through it all he has stayed focused and he has been an inspiration to us in how to handle his condition.
"We explained to him what was involved and he was still really keen to do the walk.
"I think it's down to having seen other little boys and girls who have been a bit more ill than him when he was in hospital. I think he just wants to help them."
Alfe's family said his diagnosis came as a complete shock and since then, much of his time has been spent in and out of hospital either having chemotherapy or being treated for an infection.
He will take part in the walk with his mum, three-year-old sister Sophie-Mae and grandfather Colin and now has a Just Giving web page to help raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
He said: "I have made a lot of friends in hospital who are being treated for leukaemia. I have two more blocks of chemo left, one finishes the day before the walk.
"Please sponsor me because if it wasn't for continued research like this, my friends and I might not have been able to beat the cancer."
