A councillor is calling for action to improve safety at a Northampton junction following a series of accidents, the most which happened yesterday morning.
Three cars were involved in a collision on the Towcester Road at the junction to Rowtree Road.
A mother and her 14-month-old baby were travelling in a Blue Renault towards Milton Malsor when they collided with a car turning onto Rowtree Road. A third car waiting at the junction was also involved though no one was injured in the accident.
Councillor Jill Hope (Lib Dem, Sixfields) said this is just one of several accidents on this road and she wants to see something done.
She said: “I have been shouting about this and it has been in our focus leaflet for the last few years.
“Unfortunately money is only targeted at areas where people have died or been seriously injured and on this roads the accidents usually involve bumpers hanging off or end to end bumps.
“But it’s a location where there are regular accidents, I would say one every six months, and the fact that no one has been seriously injured there isn’t the point.
“I feel like a voice in the wilderness saying this.”
Councillor Hope would like to see road engineers take a look at the area to find out what is causing the accidents and find a way of preventing them.
She said: “There seems to be something wrong with the layout of that road, so perhaps if the traffic wasn’t allowed to cross it would stop it. A roundabout would be perfect but I can’t imagine there’s a budget for that.
“I’d like the people who know what they’re doing with roads to take a good look at it.”
