BREAKING NEWS: Lib Dems win both Towcester by-election seats

LIBERAL Democrats won both by-elections in Towcester last night.

Chris Lofts and Lisa Samiotis took the Towcester seat on Northamptonshire County Council and the third seat in Brook ward in the town.

Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman for South Northamptonshire Scott Collins said: “It couldn’t have happened without so many of you who took the time to deliver leaflets and knock doors in all weathers.

“We have been stunned at the level of support with delivers and canvassers coming from Chesterfield, Nottingham, Oxford and Bedford to name but a few and every corner and party in Northamptonshire.

“We owe you all so much. They said it couldn’t be done but we did it and by a massive margin.”

Both seats have been previously held by Conservatives.

The full results are:

County Seat -

Lib Dem (Chris Lofts) 1279 (61 per cent)

Ukip 124

Con 638

BNP 66

Turnout 29.3 per cent.

Towcester Brook

Lib Dem (Lisa Samiotis) 774 (59.4 per cent)

Con 401

UKIP 129

Turnout 29.1 per cent

Is there something wrong with people in Towcester? Have they had their eyes closed for the past 18 months?

A good result for democracy. It's not healthy to have places where 1 party can put up anyone and just walk the election. If the Conservatives in Northamptonshire (and Labour etc in plenty of other places) had more competition then we would see less mediocre local politicians and inept decision making.

When Union members vote to take industrial action on less than 50% turn out we are deafened with right wing shouting that they don’t have a mandate? Funny old world….

lets hope that the Conservatives take note , don't become complacent and get on with moving Northampton town and county onwards and upwards. A picture tells a thousand stories they say!
