A BAKER, who made a colourful ‘boob’ cake for a young Northampton couple featured in the hit TV show Big Fat Gypsy Weddings, said she loves making outrageous creations for the travelling community.

An episode of the show, which was aired on Channel 4 on Tuesday night, was partially filmed in Northampton and focused on a family, known locally as the Joyces, who used to live in Monmouth Road, Spencer.

The show followed Brendan Joyce, aged 20, and his 15-year-old bride-to-be, Danielle, as they prepared for their big day.

The family had a special cleavage cake made for Danielle’s hen do from Gardners Bakery in Harborough Road, Kingsthorpe,

Owner of the bakery, Helen Gardner, said she makes hen do and wedding cakes on a regular basis for local traveller families and the cake on the show cost £33.

She added: “The traveller families I have worked with have always been easy to get along with and nice.

“Cakes for the weddings and hen dos of travellers are very different to the other types we do but they are very fun to make.

“The wedding cakes are especially intricate and they almost always have castles. The last one we did was four feet high.”

Danielle, who is also from Northampton, dressed in a white basque and short tu-tu to celebrate her hen do with her friends and her fiance with entertainment from a transvestite in the Motown Pub in Northampton.

The teenager was planning to marry Brendan on her 16th birthday, but said on the show she was concerned her partner would be jailed as he originally faced court on the same day as her hen do.

Former Kings Heath Amateur Boxing Club member Brendan accused of receiving stolen goods. He claimed on camera that he had calmed down since meeting his “woman”.
