Ben a great 'spokes' man for charity

A teeanger from Northampton with chronic liver and bowel conditions has raised £800 for the Children's Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF) with the help of his family.

Ben Richards, 14, from East Hunsbury, who was diagnosed with auto immune liver disease and ulcerative colitis when he was eight, organised a sponsored bike ride and walk at Salcey Forest in Hartwell for Big Yellow Friday in support of the children's charity.

Despite two of Ben's family members having a car accident en route, 22 relatives turned out to support the youngster, who cycled 25 miles around the woodland with his father, Mark.

Ben's mother, Doreen, said: "Everyone gave up their time and came along to support CLDF. The weather held off and we almost saw some sunshine, but everyone gave their all and finished the course.

"Ben said the first two miles were the hardest and after that he found a sudden burst of energy and managed to keep going, strongly spurred on by his dad."
