A new shop selling products made by artists from across Northamptonshire has opened in Northampton town centre.

Made in Northamptonshire in St Giles Street opened on Thursday morning.

The shop sells a range of paintings, leather work, wooden crafts, textiles and jewellery made by more than 40 artists from the county.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Morag Ballantyne from Creative Northants said: “We realised we needed a showcase for all the creative businesses there are in Northamptonshire and thought it would be lovely to have a shop.

“We now hope this can be a catalyst for future entrepreneurs and breathe life back into the high street, because we hope some people here will go on to build their base and take on shops of their own.”

The store, which is in a former shoe repair shop at 39 St Giles Street, is due to stay open for an initial period of nine months. Depending on its success, it could stay open longer.
