Appeal is launched into death of toddler
A fresh police investigation has been launched into the death of toddler Callum Bland, exactly three years after he was killed in a house fire at his home.
Callum, aged three, died when a wheelie bin was set alight outside his family's house in the Hemmingwell estate in Wellingborough on March 19, 2007.
Superintendent Glyn Timmins, Northamptonshire Police's director of investigations, has authorised an internal review as officers are convinced someone in the area must know who was responsible for the youngster's death.
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Oliver will be leading the review. He said: "In recent months, we have periodically received pieces of information in relation to Callum's death that have been subject to investigation.
"Callum died exactly three years ago today and the person responsible for his death is still out there. I am appealing to anyone with information on their mind, in relation to the identity of this person, to come forward and tell us.
"I am convinced that there is someone still living on the Hemmingwell estate, or maybe someone who lived on the estate at the time of Callum's death and who has recently moved away, who knows something.
"I am convinced there are people out there who know how this fire started and by whom. We need those people to come forward."
A 5,000 reward for information has been issued by Crimestoppers, who can be called anonymously on 0800 555111. To speak to police, call 03000 111222.
