Antiques cellar aiming to win a national award

A county antiques cellar is aiming to scoop the “Oscar” of the second-hand furniture world, as it bidms to be crowned the best centre in the country.

Brackley Antiques Centre is going “all guns blazing” in a bid to win the Homes & Antiques magazine award, to find the best antiques centre in Britain.

The centre, which opened in Brackley 13 years ago, was a runner-up last year, the first year of the awards.

It has now been short-listed in the final 25 for this year’s gong, with staff determined to go one better in 2013. They are urging people to vote for the family-run centre to help them win.

Debbe Perry says she has been rounding up support from shoppers and other shopkeepers in Brackley.

She said: “It would be amazing if we won and it would really put Brackley and Northamptonshire on the map.

“Winning this award would be like winning an Oscar.”

She said the centre, which has featured on TV series, including Antiques Road Trip, has plans to expand.

To vote, visit www.
homesandantiques.com. by February 28, with the winner announced in April.

Brackley Antiques Cellar is bucking the trend of doom and gloom on the high street, after recording record sales last month.

The second hand centre, which boasts 180 dealers and buyers from across the world, recorded the second best month of trading in 13 years in December.

Debbe Perry said: “It is really buoyant at the minute. The Saturday before Christmas was the best day we have ever had. I think people are getting fed-up with flat packs and places like Ikea, whereas you can get a unique piece here.”
