Antique weapons help in record sale at Towcester auction house

An auction house in Northamptonshire is bucking the economic trend after recording its best sale in five years thanks to a hoard of antique pistols and swords.

The rare collection of 30 flintlock pistols was among the lots under the hammer at JP Humbert Auctioneers in Towcester, fetching between 600 and 900 each.

The sale also included 16th and 17th century swords put up for auction by a private collector in Oxford that reached a similar price, with the entire catalogue fetching a total of 90,000.

The auctioneers also sold a Nazi death ring issued by SS leader Heinrich Himmler for 2,200 plus premium after rare Nazi items led to a surge in demand for German memorabilia put up for auction.

An 8ft by 4ft Nazi war ensign also reached 520 and a Nazi pin badge raised 180.
