Anne Frank message is centrepiece for Northampton festival
An exhibition about Anne Frank, which gives her story a contemporary message, will form the centrepiece of a festival in Northampton.
The Anne Frank Festival, which will run from January until March, will give people in Northampton a chance to explore the stories of both Anne Frank and locals whose lives were touched by wartime experience, and will also provide a look at the issues facing society today.
The festival was mooted after young people from Northampton were inspired following a visit to the Anne Frank Awards in London, and has been coordinated by Northampton Youth Forum.
Lindsey Ambrose, from the Youth Forum, said: "The young people wanted to bring the exhibition to Northampton after they went to the awards and it was made clear to them that the message is not just about Anne Frank in the past but that there are a lot of messages that are relevant today, particularly for young people.

"It's a very safe way of being able to explore hard issues around knife crime and gangs, and rights and responsibilities."
The Anne Frank + You exhibition will form the centrepiece of the festival. Produced by the Anne Frank Trust, it provides a contemporary profile for Anne's story and looks at the issues of identity and moral choice faced by people today.
It explores Anne's writings and experiences and includes a near-life-size replica of her bedroom in the secret annexe, and brings themes such as racial hatred and war up to date.
The festival will also include workshops, films, debates, and a mass balloon launch featuring messages of hope from dozens of young people ahead of the Cobblers' game against Walsall at Sixfields.
Northampton Borough Councillor Brendan Glynane (Lib Dem, Delapre) said it was an honour for the exhibition to come to Northampton.
Anne Frank + You will be at Northampton Guildhall from February 2.
