Alfe's cards are a gift of thanks

A boy who beat cancer has designed Christmas cards to be sold to raise money for presents for children at Northampton General Hospital.

Six-year-old Alfe Game, from Duston, Northampton, was given the all-clear from cancer of the immune system earlier this year.

But instead of sitting back after his recovery, he now wants to help children still battling the illness by raising money for Christmas presents.

Alfe's mum, Karen Rogers, said: "Alfe was in hospital last Christmas when he was getting the lines for his chemotherapy taken out.

"Father Christmas came in and gave out presents and then Alfe was able to come home and open his own.

"He remembers feeling really lucky and now he wants children to have the same feeling and have a really special day this year.

"I'm ever so proud of him.

"He can be a little monkey sometimes but he can also be very caring."

Alfe has come up with two designs for cards which he has illustrated himself - one showing a Christmas tree and the other two reindeers - which will be sold in some shops in Northampton.

The family hopes to sell 100 packs which would net 300 for presents for children at NGH and the hospital in Birmingham where he was also treated.

Alfe was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma last September, but in July the plucky youngster was given the all-clear from consultants who sent a letter to his family saying the scans they had performed on him showed he was free of tumours. To celebrate, Alfe's family threw an 'I'm Better' party at his home and he also went to the Disneyland theme park in Paris having won a charity draw.

The brave youngster also hit the headlines after taking part in a leukaemia charity walk the day after his successful bout of chemotherapy finished, where he met cricket stars Ian Botham and Andrew Flintoff.

The Christmas cards idea is a way of Alfe's family showing their gratitude to everyone who has helped them

Mrs Rogers said: "He knows he's very lucky and we do too.

"The fund-raising is for the other children but also to say thank you to the hospitals."
