Airport pervert flashed at girls

A pervert from Northampton exposed himself to two teenage girls as they waited at Birmingham International Airport for a flight.

Angelo Castro, aged 42, formerly of Birchfield Road, Abington, denied exposing himself in a manner likely to cause alarm or distress, but a jury at Warwick Crown Court last month found Castro guilty.

Casto, who now lives in Rugby, appeared for sentencing at Coventry yesterday where a judge handed him a 12-month community order with supervision. He also ordered him to do 120 hours of unpaid work and placed him on the Sex Offenders' Register for five years. He was told to pay 1,000 costs.

During Castro's trial, prosecutor Rhona Campbell said that in August last year, two 17-year-old girls had been due to catch an early flight to Belfast, planning to sleep at the airport before their 5am check-in.

The two girls sat on seats at the Burger King restaurant, which was closed at the time.

When one of them went to the toilets, Castro went over and sat next to her friend, who became perturbed by his behaviour.

The first girl told the jury: "When I came out she had come to look for me and she looked really worried."

She said he then exposed himself and committed a lewd act. At this point the girls found a security officer and Castro was arrested.

John Butterfield, defending, said Castro was given a conditional discharge by Northampton magistrates last April for sending a threatening letter to his ex-wife, but had no convictions for sexual offences.

Judge Christopher Hodson told Castro: "They were 17-year-olds and what you did upset them."
