A helicopter? It takes three seconds

A magician from Northampton who has performed alongside some of the world's biggest stars wowed a TV audience in Germany by performing an astonishing illusion.

David Penn made a helicopter appear within seconds on the German TV show, Mega Clever.

In the show, which features Germany's lottery draw, the illusionist made a Robinson R22 helicopter appear in a circle of randomly-chosen members of the studio audience.

He said: "I've done various other TV shows in different countries but never the helicopter trick on TV.

"But I'm known among magicians for being the fastest one in the world to perform it. I can perform the trick in less than three seconds.

"I always say a cloth gets dropped down and as quickly as I can pull it back completely, the helicopter is there. You really can't get it any faster. I think it's probably the most spectacular thing that I perform, but I am also known for originating quite a few other illusions. For example, I do the sawing in half in clear Perspex glass."

Mr Penn appeared on the show, which is broadcast on channel Sat 1, last weekend.

He performed the illusion with the help of Sloane Helicopters, based at Sywell Aerodrome, which supplied the aircraft.
