A supermarket giant has revealed plans for the potential closure of one of its Northamptonshire depots, putting 200 jobs at risk.

Tesco is consulting with staff at Tesco Direct at one of its DIRFT warehouses in Danes Way about plans to shut down part of its operation there.

The supermarket giant has announced plans to switch its online retail depot from Crick to a re-opened warehouse at the Fenny Lock distribution centre in Milton Keynes, creating 300 jobs.

The existing grocery and clothing depots which also operate out of DIRFT will be unaffected by the announcement.

A spokesperson for Tesco said some of the business at the DIRFT site would move to the new distribution centre.

The spokesperson added: “Following a review, Tesco has announced plans to re-open its Fenny Lock distribution centre in Milton Keynes creating 300 jobs.

“Part of the business currently operated from this site will move to Fenny Lock, and we are working with USDAW to support affected colleagues through this difficult time.

“We hope to offer them all alternative roles within the clothing and grocery distribution centres at Daventry or at Fenny Lock”.
