18 arrests follow drugs warrants

The execution of 30 drugs warrants led to the arrest of 18 people in Northamptonshire during a week of action to crack down on drugs.

During Tackling Drugs Week, held last month, county police also disrupted three cannabis factories, destroying more than 1,000 plants and seizing equipment used to produce them. The warrants resulted in the seizure of small amounts of cannabis, cocaine, heroin, crack and other drugs worth more than 2,000. Organisations in the county worked to clamp down on the supply of drugs and highlight available treatments for drug users.

Insp Mike Smith, of Northamptonshire Police, said: "I am pleased with what we achieved during the week but make the point that trying to reduce the supply of drugs and tackling drug-related crime is a year-round business for us.

"People in communities across Northamptonshire have told us repeatedly that drug abuse is a real concern for them and I am appealing for people who have information about drug supply to get in touch with us.

"We will be continuing to concentrate on enforcement activity and to work with our partners in the area of treatment provision to ensure that people who want help to move away from drugs – and their families – can find help."
