£110,000 Macmillan target for a day of drinking coffee in Northamptonshire

More than 600 coffee mornings will be held in Northamptonshire this Friday, hoping to raise thousands of pounds for Macmillan Cancer support.

Pubs, cafes, gyms, schools and churches across the county will be hosting events with all funds raised helping to pay for specialist cancer nurses.

Tony Ansell, the owner of Abington Park cafe, which is hosting a coffee morning, said: "We're delighted to be supporting such a worthy cause. We have a coffee morning every year and this year we're having a grand raffle and musical entertainment."

Matthew McInerney, the manager of Barratts Club in Kingsthorpe Road where a coffee morning will also be held, added: "It is our first year doing the coffee morning. As a company we do a lot with Macmillan so we thought it would be a good thing to do this year. I am sure it will be a big success."

Lisa Donald, the fund-raising manager for Macmillan in Northamptonshire, said she was hoping the charity could raise 110,000, which would help pay for four new positions.

Registrations for the charity event will still be accepted until Thursday and information on getting involved is available from Lisa on Northampton 648067. Visit www.macmillan.org.uk for details.
