Local Labour councillor and official of the Communication Workers Union, Gareth Eales, said: “This result is an emphatic mandate for Jeremy Corbyn and a demonstration of where the party membership is locally.

“Some can remain in denial if they wish, but considering 12 months ago Northampton supported Yvette Cooper, this nomination is proof indeed that Jeremy has the support of a majority of local party members.

“When he is officially re-elected as leader in just over a month’s time, we need all local members and activists to move on, unite and focus on the task in hand...which is, challenging this Government and offering the people of this country a genuine alternative approach.”
