A CCTV image has been released of a man British Transport Police (BTP) officers would like to speak after an attempted theft of a bag from a train travelling to Northampton.

The incident happened at Rugby station on a train travelling from Birmingham to Northampton at around 7.15pm on Tuesday, 19 May.

Investigating officer PC Carl Johnson said: “The victim had placed his holdall in the overhead rack.

“When the train reached Rugby he saw a man, who had boarded the service at Coventry, take his bag from the rack and leave the train.

“The victim chased after the man and asked for his bag which was handed over.”

Officers believe the man in the images could have vital information about the attempted theft and ask him or anyone who recognises him to come forward to assist with their enquiries.
