Travellers who set up an illegal camp on land at a former middle school in Northampton have been evicted following a court order.
A group of nearly 30 caravans parked up on the site of the former Blackthorn Middle School in Blackthorn Road last week.
Northamptonshire County Council, which owns the land, served those in the encampment a direction instructing them to vacate the site by Monday.
But it did not happen on Monday, so the authority applied for a section 78 order enabling it to evict the travellers from the land.
Today the council has confirmed the group was evicted on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the Countywide Traveller Unit: “We successfully applied for a court order on Tuesday enabling us to evict the travellers at Blackthorn Middle School and they vacated the site later that day.”
Blackthorn was one of 15 middle schools in Northampton that closed in 2004 as the town switched from a three-tier to a two-tier education system, introducing only secondary and primary schools.
The site has been targeted by travellers several times in recent months.
