More than 600 children played took part in tennis activities to mark the arrival of the Davis Cup to Northampton.

The 105kg trophy was displayed in King’s Park Sports and Conference Centre yesterday and a Festival of Tennis was organised.

Schoolchildren from Northampton were given the chance to play tennis and have their picture taken with the trophy.

Nina Graveson-Bridge, Regional Tennis Participation Manager, said 1,000 more people had taken up tennis in the county in the past year.

She said: “The whole point of having the trophy is to celebrate the team’s success and inspire people to take up the sport.

“You don’t get the chance to see a trophy like this very often.”
