Police and fire officers investigating the cause of a fire at a house in Northampton have said it is not being treated as suspicious.

More than a dozen fire and police vehicles were called to Saxon Street, near the junction with Norman Road, Abington, at about 1.10pm yesterday.

Residents were evacuated and neighbours said the whole garden and part of the house was ablaze until firefighters brought it under control.

A police spokesman said today that investigations are continuing into the cause of the blaze but is not believed to have been started deliberately.

He added that the force is not linking the fire to any crimes in the area.

Anyone who has information about the fire can call Northamptonshire Police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or use the anonymous online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
