Campaigners calling for traffic safety improvements near a primary school in Northampton have met with highways officers.

Residents in Spencer want changes to alleviate traffic and parking concerns around Earl Spencer Primary School in Streatfield Road. A petition signed by 150 people was presented by county councillor, Gareth Eales (Lab, Dallington Spencer), to a full county council meeting on Thursday June 18.

A meeting with other county councillors and highways officers took place at the school earlier this month.

Councillor Eales said: “I was pleased to take these issues up with the County Council and also present the petition on behalf of residents to the full Council.

“The meeting last week was the County Council’s opportunity to engage with key stakeholders concerning Earl Spencer and explore what remedial actions will be taken. The meeting was very productive indeed and all parties are hopeful of some beneficial proposals from the appropriate Cabinet Members in due course to alleviate the problems.

“This demonstrates that when residents channel their concerns properly that local authorities have to take notice and engage with them.”
