A NEW permanent chief executive of Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust has been appointed.

Gerry McSorley, who is currently chief executive of Hinchingbrooke Health Care NHS Trust in Cambridgeshire, will move to Northampton on June 1.

Dr McSorley will take over from Paul Farenden, who has been the temporary chief executive since January 1.

Dr McSorley has previously held chief executive positions at several large hospital trusts, such as Nottingham City Hospital NHS Trust, Leicester General Hospital NHS Trust and Derby City General Hospital NHS Trust.

Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust chairman Dr John Hickey said: “I’m delighted to announce that Dr Gerry McSorley has been appointed as our chief executive, and we welcome him to the trust.

“Gerry has an overriding commitment to the provision of high quality, safe care.

“He is particularly keen in ensuring that all clinicians are involved in determining how we meet the financial challenges facing us, while maintaining the drive for quality improvement.”

Dr McSorley is highly qualified in management and administration, holding a doctorate in business administration from Brunel University.

He is a visiting professor in healthcare management and leadership at the University of Lincoln, has presented papers internationally on leadership and innovation in health care and is a past president of the Institute of Healthcare Management.
