The owner of Barbarella Hair, which currently has two premises in St Giles Street, has submitted a proposal to Northampton Borough Council to take over the vacant C’est la Vie unit.

The plans state the new unisex hairdressing salon, which would replace the two existing premises, would create 10 new jobs.

The application form states: “We propose to use the location for predominantly hairdressing services, however will provide make-up beauty services as part of a wedding package periodically.

“Having visited the location, there are no structural changes required to the building although we expect to remove some dividing walls in the basement and to create a dedicated staff area. The non-structural changes are designed to provide a greater retail floor space.

“No alterations are required to the structure of the building. The proposed business will be in keeping with the boutique style of St Giles Street and will increase our headcount by 10 through new positions.”

The planing proposal is specifically asking for Northampton Borough Council’s permission to change the class from the current ‘special’ class to A1 Retail use.

A public consultation on the plans runs until September 12. The council will then make a final decision at a later date.
