A gym member has been refused a refund after maintenance work closed a swimming pool for six weeks.
Lydia Hayward said she was outraged when Virgin Active at Collingtree closed access to its swimming pool, but refused to refund her month’s membership, even though the pool is the only facility she uses.
The pool was closed last month for refurbishments and was due to re-open on May 10, but it was still unavailable this week.
Miss Hayward said: “The company refuses to accept that it has broken its terms of contract by changing the services on offer.
“When I joined in February I asked if works would affect pool use and was specifically told it would be kept open.
“Now they are denying members the right to cancel their contracts, saying we should go to Rugby or Milton Keynes instead.
“I have spoken to consumer company, Which?, who agree the company has breached its contract, but without risking the legal route, there is nothing else I can do.
A spokesperson for Virgin Active said: “Unfortunately, due to unforeseen additional work, the swimming pool area has been kept closed longer than expected.
“Members have been kept fully informed and freezes were available for any members in their pre-agreed contractual period.”
Miss Hayward claimed she had not been offered that option and believed it was an unsatisfactory.
