The grandmother of a baby killed by a dog in Northamptonshire has appeared at Northampton Crown Court.

Molly Mae Wotherspoon died following the attack by an American pit bull at a house in Morning Star Road, Daventry, on October 3 last year.

Her grandmother, Susan Aucott, 55, of Alfred Street, Northampton, appeared at Northampton Crown Court this morning and entered no plea to a charge under the Dangerous Dogs Act, having a dog that was dangerously out of control.

Mollie Mae’s mum, Clare Riley, aged 23, of Far Cotton, Northampton, was also due to attend charged on the same offence, however she did not appear in front of Judge Lynn Tayton as the court was told she had become ill after arriving at court.

Mark Nicholls, representing Riley, said: “She did attend court this morning but started feeling unwell and felt she was going to faint. I advised her to go and see a doctor.”

Mr Nicholls asked for a psychiatric report to be prepared on his client before the next hearing.

The case was adjourned until December 17 when both women are expected to enter pleas.

Mrs Aucott was given conditional bail until that date.
