The grandmother of a baby killed by a dog in Northamptonshire has pleaded not guilty to a charge of having a dog that was dangerously out of control.

Molly Mae Wotherspoon died following the attack by an American pit bull, called Bruiser, at a house in Morning Star Road, Daventry, on October 3 last year.

Her grandmother Susan Aucott, aged 55, of Alfred Street, Northampton, appeared at Northampton Crown Court on Thursday and entered a not guilty plea to being the person that was in charge of the dog that was dangerously out of control.

Molly’s mother Claire Riley, aged 22, of West Cotton Close, Northampton, was also due to appear at court to plea to the same charge, however her attendance was excused after a medical note was produced.

A further court hearing has been set for January 18. A trial date has been set for June next year.
