A man attempted to steal a woman’s phone after she suffered a fall in a Northampton street.

The 38-year-old woman was walking along Harborough Road, near Cartwright Road, in the direction of Asda, when she fell to the ground.

While she was on the floor a man approached her to ask if she was okay, before reaching into her pocket and taking her mobile phone.

The woman grabbed it back at which point the man shouted abuse at her and ran off towards St Andrew’s Road.

The attempted theft took place at some point between 8.35pm and 8.50pm on Friday, June 3.

The thief was white, of medium build, around 5ft 5ins and aged between 35 and 40. He was wearing a white hooded top, blue jeans and light- coloured trainers. He was carrying a can of alcohol.

Officers would also like to speak to three members of the public who helped the woman in the aftermath.

An Asian man is known to have walked her home and two young women - who may have seen what happened - also helped her.

Witnesses or anyone with information can contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
