Folk festival gets underway

The annual Spratton Folk Festival gets going next week.

Running from Friday, July 10, to Sunday, July 12, the line-up includes workshops, children's activities, craft stalls and beer tents.

The Demon Barbers, who will be headlining on the Saturday night, will be just one of the highlights at the three day festival – with musical appearances from other popular acts such as Ella Edmondson (daughter of comedian Ade Edmondson), Skyclad, 3 Daft Monkeys, and Colvin Quarmby.

Festival organiser Mark Osborne said: "At Spratton, we look to provide something for everyone.

"I can guarantee that during this weekend we will cover all musical tastes in the world of folk music; from the heavy rock of Skyclad on the Friday night through to the troubadour Tom Bliss – one man and his guitar singing sea-shanties.

"We have folk-punk, folk-ska, folk-rock, folk-dub. We even have Tarantism on the main stage on Saturday afternoon, who describe themselves as a Celtic ska punk dub dance band."

There are 22 acts over the three days on the main stage and the lineup includes 4Square, a young band from Manchester who merge the traditional with a modern twist and Dead Like Harry, who recently supported pop band Scouting For Girls.

In addition to the main stage, there is also a Festival Fringe stage with a full programme of artists, and acts will also be appearing in the beer tent during the weekend.

The Friday night is traditionally a rock night, Saturday has been designed as a day of fun for the whole family – with two stages, a tent dedicated to children's circus skills, workshops, beer and wine tents, food stalls and much more.

Sunday will include all day folk and dancing, and there will be a special line up featuring young local talent.

Students, OAPs concessions and unaccompanied under 18s are half price, whilst under 18s who come with an accompanying adult are free of charge.

Camping for the whole weekend is just 10.
