Fire fighters were dispatched to the Grosvenor Centre car park in Northampton this afternoon after reports of a lift being stuck.

A crew based at the Mounts station in Campbell Street left the station just before 1pm with the blue lights on.

A fire control room spokeswoman said the engine had been dispatched to the Grosvenor Centre after a 999 call was made by a member of the public.

A lift leading from the borough council operated car park to the shopping centre had become stuck there, according to a centre spokesman.

Chloe Belgrave, contacted the Chron this afternoon to say she had been released safely by 1.25pm.

She said she had parked on the 4th floor and went up to the 6th floor in the borough council operated lifts.

She said: "(The) lights turned off and said it was out of service. I pressed the alarm button and then called 999.

"I was very worked up, shocked and anxious whilst in there but stayed on the phone to a lovely man from the fire service until I heard the fire fighters voices on the other side."
