Three youths were seen running away from an arson attack in a Northampton garden, which sent flames leaping up two tall trees next to a house.

A total of 25 people dialled 999 to report the incident on Healey Close, Rectory Farm at around 9.30pm last night (Thursday, July 16).

Two fire crews, one from the Mounts and one from Moulton, attended the scene and nine fire fighters tackled the blaze, which spread across 10 metres of large Leylandii trees, using a water hose.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue said the fire was believed to have been started in a shed and was caused “deliberately.”

A Northamptonshire Police spokesperson added that three youths were seen “running away from the scene.”

Craig Hoare, who sent this picture to the Chronicle and Echo tweeted last night: “Big fire in Rectory Farm tonight. Two fire engines. Think started by kids. Everyone ok.”

Northamptonshire Police is investigating the incident.
