Fire crews battling 100 tonnes of blazing hay on A14 near Kettering

Major route closed all night after LGV load bursts into flames

A ten-mile stretch of the A14 near Kettering is likely to be closed throughout the night after a lorry carrying 100 tonnes of hay caught fire.

The carriageway has been closed westbound between the A45 at Thrapston and Kettering since around 3pm on Tuesday as firefighters battle the blaze

One lane is also closed eastbound causing delays for traffic heading from Kettering.

A spokesman for Highways England said: "

"At the request of the Fire Service we implemented a westbound carriageway closure of the A14 and a lane two closure on the eastbound carriageway.

"This will be a protracted closure. The LGV is carrying hay bales and these will have to be individually removed under control and damped down fully.

"The closure is expected to remain in place throughout the night due to the hay bales re-igniting."

Diversions are in place using the A45 and A6 northbound.
