A woman from Northampton has completed the rare feat of finishing a marathon in each of the world’s seven continents.
Karen Pinckard, aged 55, only started running 15 years ago but fell in love with it so much that two years later she signed up to run the Great Wall of China marathon.
In the past two years, Mrs Pinckard has completed marathons in Italy, Auckland, Antarctica, the Inca trail at Machu Picchu, Tokyo, Big Sur in California, London and completed her set of continents with one in Cape Town in September.
Mrs Pinckard, a former pupil of Weston Favell Upper School, said: “There are only about 100 women in the world to finish all seven Continents, and I’m pretty sure I am the first woman to do this from Northampton.
“I have only found one other woman from England to run all seven continents.”
