Tap water alert: Major employers react to warnings

Staff at Barclaycard's headquarters in Northampton have been given free bottled water by the company and allowed to leave work to pick up their children if their schools have closed.

A spokesman for the firm said: "All our drinking fountains run off the mains water so we obviously can't use them.

"Instead we're giving bottles to staff for free and people who have got children at schools which have closed have been told they can leave work to pick them up if they need to."

Carlsberg have said they believe none of their beer has been affected by cryptosporidium.

The Northampton based brewer has said all its products are boiled and pasteurised during production so should be free from the parasite.

No drinks have been recalled, but the company is working closely with Anglian Water.
