Swimming pools closed by crisis

Swimming pools in Northampton have closed after taking advice over cryptosporidium.

The general manager of the Park Inn Hotel, Phil Dark, said he would have been liable had there been a case of cryptosporidiosis traced back to his pool, although there was no evidence to suggest the pool contained the parasite.

A spokesman for Northampton Borough Council said some smaller pools might not have the filtration systems which the authority's ones have, which filtered water before it went into the pool.

He said the council was following the issued health and safety guidance.
