Northampton tap water Alert: Residents urged to be vigilant over hygiene

There have been no confirmed cases so far of people who have been infected with cryptosporidum as a result of the tap water alert in Northampton.

In a statement issued this morning, the Health Protection Agency said: "The agency has written to local GPs and hospitals asking them to be vigilant for signs and symptoms of cryptosporidiosis."

Symptoms of cyrptosporidum include stomach pains, dehydration, diarrhoea, weight loss and fever. Vulnerable people such as the elderly and very young are most at risk.
