NCL Round-up: Patel's big score is not enough for Horton win
Division three
Formidable batting from Horton House couldn't steer them to victory over Rushden Town as they were forced to settle for a draw.
Impressive knocks from Samesh Patel (98), Paul Ruff (65) and David Brown (39) helped Horton post a total of 242 for five in a game reduced to 48 overs per side.
Rushden did not help themselves by dropping seven catches in the Horton innings.
Tony Clampin with 88 led the Rushden challenge as they started well, at one stage being ahead of the run-rate.
However a flurry of wickets in the face of tight bowling, in particular from Rakesh Patel (1-37 off 14 overs) left them batting out for a draw.
Nilesh Jhala took two for eight Horton, but they couldn't take the extra five wickets they needed to secure victory, with Rushden finishing on 180 for five for a share of the points.
Rob Wykes' knock of 76 kept Long Buckby in the promotion hunt with a win over second-placed Wollaston.
Bucks bowlers Joe Oliver (3-66) and Gary Reeve (2-40) kept their opponents below the 200 mark as they finished on 195 for eight in 50 overs.
Despite the best efforts of Mike Duddle (4-35) with the ball for Wollaston, Buckby made it to their victory target of 196 with two wickets in hand to move to within six points of their rivals for a place in division two.
ONs took just 23 overs to bat their way to victory over Wellingborough Indians.
Ben Fagan (2-42), Mobushar Khawaja (3-27) and Pratik Kanani (2-19) had the beating of their counterparts as Indians were dismissed for 131.
Tom Hafil (41) and Marcus Silver (58no) were in-form in the Ons reply as they made short work of reaching their target, doing so with eight wickets and 27 overs to spare.
A batting collapse saw St Crispins & Ryelands fall at the feet of Oundle.
Dale Ansell was the only St Crispins batsmen to make it into double figures with his knock of 15, leaving St Crispins all out on 59 chasing 187.
Oundle's Jack Roberts was the man of the moment as he took five wickets in 9.3 overs, while fellow bowlers Richard Cunningham (2-11) and David Foster (2-8) took a pair of wickets each.
Division two
Earls Barton moved into top spot in one of the tightest title races in the NCL with a winning draw against Old Wellingburians.
Barton successfully defended 145 after losing the toss and being put in to bat, but couldn't take the final wicket they needed to secure a win.
Darren Trotter (28) and Callum Ward (22) recorded the best totals for Barton as David Hallworth (3-37) and Karim Prince (2-24) had varying success with the ball, seeing Barton all out for 145.
OWs opener Matthew Ingram (35) got his side off to a flying start, but determined performances with the ball from James McDermott (5-49), Faheem Suleman (2-23) and Naseem Yaqub (2-26) saw Wellingburians finish on 134 for nine in a tight match.
Saints ran out of time in their match with East Haddon as the pair shared a draw.
Alex Jackman (72) and Craig Burger (77) put on a fine show with the bat to help Haddon to 228 for eight in 50 overs, with tail-end batsman Jeremy Medlin helping their cause with a useful 29.
Glenn Thompson (4-51) and Affie Hussain (3-29) proved the most successful of the bowling attack.
Saints' opening partnership of Affie Hussain (61) and Andrew Jefferson (60) put on 105 for the first wicket, but they could only add a further 100 to that total as they ended on 209 for seven.
A good solid bowling and fielding display by the Old Grammarians restricted Overstone to 140 to set them up for a win.
Martin Gilbey (4-27), Mick Thompson (3-48) and Dean Abbott (2-7) were the pick of the bowlers as Sam Shelford (28) top-scored for Overstone.
OGs then made hard work of their task as they looked to be struggling on 63 for four. But knocks from Dean Abbott (37) and Pat Barron (34) saw the OGs home to 144 for eight in 42 overs.
Towcestrians pulled further away from relegation trouble as they got the better of Raunds.
Tows bowled out their opponents for 130 before batting their way to 131 for six to win by four wickets, now 33 points ahead of second-bottom Saints.
Division four
Ashby Timken moved closer to leaders Irchester as they took the honours in their match with West Haddon, while the leaders slipped-up at home to Heyford, only managing a winning draw.
Competitve knocks from Jim Captainino (34), Matt Climie (59) and Will Robinson (43no) helped Haddon to 190 for six in 50 overs.
Todd Hewitt (2-44) was the most successful bowler as he took two atches as well as two wickets to dent Haddon's hopes.
Matt Climie (2-33) did his best to stop Timken from surpassing his side's total, and they got off to a dreadful start as opener Sam Scarman fell for just four runs.
However consistent hits from Martin Robson (39), Martin Standen (24), David Dowdeswell (60) and Mark Macmain (44) led Timken to victory, reaching 191 with six wickets and six overs to spare.
Faltering side Stony Stratford dropped further behind Timken in the race for promotion as they could only hold on for a losing draw with Peterborough.
Rain reduced the game to a 32-over match and Peterborough made 221 for three with Bob Milne hitting an unbeaten century.
Steven Osborne hit 46 and Chris Swain 42 as Stony made 204 for six in reply.
