Junior Rugby: Heathens second best
Heathens made a sorry return to action in the Directors League of the Wells Bombardier Merit Table as they struggled to work off their post-Christmas lethargy.
Weak tackling allowed Oundle to open the scoring with a converted try after 10 minutes, and it was the beginning of a woeful half-hour spell for the Northampton side, who conceded two more tries as they went in at half-time 22-0 adrift.
Indeed, the lead could have been greater if it were not for some aggressive tackling from Heathens' centre Tom Horbury.
Heathens did perk up after the break, and five minutes after the restart they got on the scoresheet when Steve Barron crossed for a try that was converted by stand-off Damian McColgan.
Three minutes later, Oundle extended their lead with a try to make it 27-7.
Heathens again responded, and were rewarded for their attacking efforts with a second converted try, Laurence Knowles crashing over
and McColgan adding the extra points.
This Saturday Heathens are again in Wells Bombardier Merit table action when they make the short trip to Old Scouts to take on their third string.
