Gunners boss plays down moves for Arteta and Arshavin
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger today played down reports linking the club with a move for Mikel Arteta or Andrei Arshavin.
The Gunners have been reported ready to make a 12m bid for Everton's Spanish international during the transfer window, as well as being strongly linked to Russian international Arshavin.
But Wenger said he is not prepared to spend big this month, and played down the reports.
"Mikel Arteta is a very good player but we have not made any enquiry about him at all," insisted Wenger.
"There is no progress (on Arshavin]. If there is any progress made you will be informed, I promise you."
Wenger insisted Arsenal will not spend big, adding: "We have a specific budget which is not as big as I have read in the newspapers, some ridiculous amounts of money that are completely crazy.
"But we will try to use it wisely and well if we can.
"We have a very, very good squad and we will go for an exceptional talent only - but if it is just to have one player more, we will not do it."
