Darsdale Home is a residential care home which looks after people with sight difficulties and is hoping to win enough money to buy a specialist air mattress.

Darsdale Home in Chelveston Road, Raunds, has applied to Make A Wish for 999 to buy an air mattress which is used to make people who are bedridden or terminally ill more comfortable.

Care home manager Sue Henderson said: "This mattress will help people who are bedridden, or who might be spending a long period of time in bed following a short-term injury or illness, prevent them from developing bed sores and will offer extra comfort to terminally ill people who are in the last stages of their life.

"At the moment we can request to have them on a temporary basis but we have to go on a waiting list and a lot of people in the community need them.

"It would be wonderful if we could buy one of our own."

The home is owned by a charitable organisation called Northamptonshire Association for the Blind and has been running more than 50 years.

It offers specialist care facilities for individuals with sight or sight and hearing difficulties and looks after 30 people over the age of 55.
