Children's Centre

The Northamptonshire Children's Resource Centre in Corby turned waste things into playthings for more than 51,000 children last year and wants funds to help it encourage more youngsters to take up craft activities.

The centre collects a wide range of materials including card, paper, boxes, adhesive tape, fabric, foil, buttons, plastic, containers, tubing, bubble wrap, cones and bobbins, from businesses every week which it uses to do craft activities.

It is hoping to win 1,000 from the Make A Wish campaign so it can buy new die cutting equipment, which can be used to make things like finger puppets, masks and motifs for play groups around the county.

Centre trustee, David Thompson, said: "We want to extend the range of dies we have so we can make different things for our members.

"We want to be able to provide more things so we can extend their hands-on experience of craft activities and help them to develop."

The centre was started in 1985, to equip a summer play scheme, and has expanded over the years to serve voluntary groups, schools, playgroups, parents and adults with special needs throughout the county and surrounding areas.
