Briar Hill Primary School
A week in the countryside for 30 children is the reason why staff at Briar Hill decided to apply for £4,200 in Make A Wish funding.
The aim is to take year three and four pupils away to the county's Everdon Field Centre to experience time away from home and get to grips with the great outdoors.
Secretary Ann Priest said: "I have been in the school for 15 years and up until last year Northamptonshrie County Council used to partly subsidise the children on free school meals."
She continued: "Last year they withdrew the subsidy.
We had to tell the parents there is no subsidy, we have to pay."
She explained that the trip costs 70 per pupil for half a week and 140 for a full week.
"My thinking was if we could just have some money to help pay, if not for all the children, then for the children on free school meals."
Activities during the trip include a village walkabout, a fishing trip and a walk in Daventry Country Park.
Mrs Priest said: "Some of them may not have been anywhere before.
They come and have freedom which they might not get living in a town."
