Matthew Cattell and William Walker emerged as the top dogs following the EBYDS junior singles event which was held at the Northampton & District IBC last Saturday.

The EBYDS event for the junior section (8-15 years of age) saw 32 competitors take part in a singles round robin.

This was followed by skills tests, with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final all being played in an atmosphere of good sportsmanship before a sizeable crowd of parents and supporters.

There was some excellent bowling and it is very obvious that there is a strong competitiveness in these young people.

At the end of it all, Cattell, who bowls for Rushden, and Wellingborough's Walker were the top two, and they will now go on to the regional event on April 19 at Melton Mowbray IBC.

Thanks go to the umpires, markers, coaches and helpers who give their time to make these events possible.

Daventry Ladies' exciting journey in the Yetton Plate came to an end with a 91-69 defeat to St Neots at the zone final stage.

The ladies had done extremely well to reach the final having beaten strong teams from Kingsthorpe and Rushden along the way.

In the two friendly matches this week, mixed teams from Daventry beat Welford-on-Avon Bowling Club 139-81, and Carleton Enderby 115-100.
