Big Brother's Grace - dad caught in town siege
TV's Big Brother contestant Grace is the daughter of a Northampton builder who was caught up in a dramatic siege in the town three years ago.
Dance teacher Grace Adams-Short, aged 20, had tracked down her biological father Karl Adams through his mother Yvonne last year, 18 years after he left Grace and her mother Alison Short to move to the USA.
The self-styled "Sloane ranger" contestant, who recently took on his surname after becoming closer to her father, shot to fame when she became one of the 14 housemates in the seventh series of Big Brother.
Mr Adams has gained notoriety following a a high-profile incident in June 2003.
He was caught up in an 11-hour siege, with armed police officers surrounding his old house in Kingswell Road, Kingsthorpe, after he refused to leave his home.
He was later sentenced to a two-year community rehabilitation order at Northampton Magistrates' Court after being found guilty of using threatening words and behaviour during the siege.
Grace's uncle, Paul Short, who revealed the story to the Sunday Mirror, said she had been overjoyed when she tracked her father down.
Mr Short said: "Grace was thrilled to get in touch with her dad . . . it was what she had dreamt about for years.
"Even though she was two years old when he left she always thought about him."
Mr Short, aged 47, also revealed that, despite the fact the former manager of 80s pop act Haircut 100 had walked out on them, Grace's mother, formerly a PA to Richard Branson, was delighted with the reunion.
He added: "Grace's mum is happy for her . . . she knew it was important to her."
Grace, who lives in a 340,000 Notting Hill flat bought for her by her mother, told BB interviewers that she can do the splits both ways and snores like a 90-year-old man.
