Air Ambulance
The Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance has made an application for the largest amount of funding from Make A Wish – that of £10,000.
It costs about 1.4 million a year to keep the service in the air; enabling the crew to reach casualties in need of urgent medical treatment.
Since the service started in 2003, the air ambulance's medical team has flown out to 5,300 situations and saved the lives of many people.
But, as a facility entirely run on donations and fund-raising, the Make A Wish funds could make a vital difference.
Regional fundraising manager Tracy Grunwell said: "We would love 10,000 but would be happy with as much as they could give us.
It means we can fly another day and it means more lives can be saved."
In a rural county close to major motorways, the air ambulance is frequently called upon and currently the crew take on five or six missions each day.
The air ambulance is operational for 10 hours each day, but staff would like the opportunity to extend the hours of the service.
Yet the helicopter and crew would need night vision equipment for this to be possible.
Ms Grunwell said: "We would love to be a 24-hour service but haven't got the funds."
