Building work has begun on a new primary school facility next to a Northampton secondary school, which is due to open in September 2015.
The primary school extension of The Duston School (TDS) will accommodate pupils from four years old, meaning the school will become an “all-through” school for pupils aged four to 19 years old.
The building plans include a new play space, extra parking, a pupil drop off point and two forms of entry.
The curriculum focus for the new younger pupils will be to appropriately adapt specialist subjects offered in the rest of the school, including science and food technology.
Principal, Jane Herriman, said that the aim of the study programme is “so they can be taught in KS2 and KS1 to raise standards and inspire pupils in local, national and international demand at an early age.”
Miss Herriman, said: “We are really excited about extending the already outstanding provision at TDS from age 4 right through to the end of Post 16.
“I have seen the plans and they are completely innovative in terms of the building.
“An exceptional and outstanding primary lead Principal for the new school has already been appointed.
“She is working closely with us already to ensure that the outcomes for the young people that come here will be the very best.”
